It's probably something like cutting your hair on Full Moon days. Give it a try. Maybe you already know about this. I don't consider myself as a superstitious, but why not? I always ignore the notifications about incoming New Moons. But moonlight is real, it glances off the mirror, covering the eye with silver, giving the night a whole new meaning, maybe it's going to be a little miracle, if I choose to be a part of its cosmic birth.
Probably we almost don't write anything by hand these days, at least nothing meaningful, nothing "big". So the sole act of writing down our wishes on a sheet of paper will unlock some hidden, long concealed power, going straight from our mind, our eyes, all the way to the pen between our fingers. Whisper the words while scribbling if you want, human voice is well known for its mystical ways.
A little remark - I think that there is some truth in astrology, especially if we talk about peculiar traits of the zodiac signs like compatibility, characteristic features and even physical appearance. And as for the first two I almost don't have experience to lean on, knowing myself and few other people I can confirm that some things I've read about physical features of Leo males seem to be true, however pompous and egocentric this may sound : ) These are:
- most Leos have cat like characteristics, especially in the face - the lower part of the nose has a slightly triangle form, resembling the muzzle of a cat, every representative of the cat family actually.
- they are generally tall people and walk in big steps.
- their hair is dense, bearing a resemblance to lion's mane.
- their eyes, no matter what colour are full of warmth.

It's just that I've lost touch with humans and their ways. I am still a spectator, still can't find the actor in me.

I hope your wishes come true. I know that you probably don't need this stuff, you will manage without it. But just like cutting off your hair on Full Moon days makes it stronger, cutting out your goals on New Moon may be as beneficial : )
